This is the second of three Halloween-themed posts from Dame Darcy, author of Handbook for Hot Witches: Dame Darcy’s Illustrated Guide to Magic, Love & Creativity, a guide for girls who want cool things to do and great friends to do them with, who aren’t afraid to be their different, awesome selves.
Along with crafting, it wouldn’t be a proper Halloween without the right sweets! One of my favorite drinks, or “witches brew,” for Halloween is the Mexican Hot Chocolate.
Mexican Hot Chocolate:
Blend 4 cups of rice milk with 4 tsps of coco powder, 2 tbsp of honey, and 1 tbsp of cinnamon. Heat in a cauldron and serve with a ladle.
And the best thing about themed parties is it’s not weird to use food coloring! Black and orange are critical for Halloween and this is the perfect recipe to match the colors:
Black and Orange Chocolate Raw Food Cake:
- 2 cups of nuts (almonds and cashews work best)
- Prunes, pitted
- Olive oil
- Powdered baking cocoa
- Agave nectar or honey
- Orange extract
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
Blend nut until powdery, then place in a mixing bowl. Blend the pitted prunes with olive oil into a gooey mix and add to nuts. Add baking cocoa. Mix in the nectar or honey, orange extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until you can form a cake out of it like clay. Pat into a ball and shape into a cake on a plate.
Frosting Ingredients:
- 1 avocado
- Olive oil
- Baking Cocoa
- Honey, agave nectar, or real maple syrup
- ½ orange juiced
- Orange extract
For the frosting, chop up the avocado and place in the blender with enough olive oil to coast the blades. When this is blended into a gooey mixture, add the cocoa, honey, lemon, and vanilla extract. Blend until creamy. Spoon the frosting on to the top of the cake and spread evenly in a spiral from the center to the edge.
For decoration: Black berries, orange colored edible flowers, mini pumpkins, and bee pollen granules for sprinkles. Use the orange rind as an orange swirl in the center, get creative!
